I have a question for the readers

Have you ever seen a country, ruled by a man with clear dictatorial tendencies, who after 10 years still enjoys the support of its people?
If not, I suggest you to come to Venezuela then. You won't believe your own eyes.
I was born here and I have lived here all my life, and I can't believe my own eyes. For what is worth, I voted NO. It doesn't mean much. But I do care to be the exception.
PS: Don't click on the click here to read the rest option, there is no rest. I will publish a longer post tomorrow.

  1. I don't know. I know, a pathetic answer. I guess we should ask ourselves if "a people" means everyone, or a simple majority, or perhaps just those whose opinion seems to count a little more than others.

A government can not only dupe itself into thinking that it is truly popular among all, but it can also dupe its citizens to thinking that it has it good, if that's all it remembers. Look at Cuba. Venezuela isn't there yet, because there are plenty of people who were born in la Cuarta who remember what life was like before 1999. To be sure, if Chavez follows through on his stated desires, time will erode this.

  2. Julia,
I'm really sorry to hear the SÍ won. I personally think this was rigged like none other. If you think about it, the same thing came up in 2007 and you guys smoked him, although it was close he was still smoked (because he lost!). That was the true expression of Venezuelans. I think he had a longer term plan in mind, wait a few years, rig it, and then say, "Hey! Look at '07! They said NO, now they say SÍ!" Regardless, I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Un abrazo.

  3. Hi Julia

Nice to see you back at it.

As for your question, I believe I am also living in such a country.

But with the shortages are only becoming apparent, so we are at that point in time, when we have a choice as a people. Either we can gather together and cross our racial and class divides, ignore the politics who seek to divide us.

Or follow them down what I see as a destructive end.

It is time to pick your side.

And those in power, will do ANYTHING to maintain the status quo.

But as things get worse, the average person gets more desperate and we are picking at each other like crabs in a barrel.

We don't grow enough food to be self sustaining. And we can't grow food fast enough to cope with the sudden demand.

Hunger is a powerful motivator. They are trying so hard, to keep up. But every denied opportunity over the years is about to oversweep the members of the class I was born to if we don't reach out.
